Congratulations Graduates! ♀♂

Once upon a time, yours truly was invited to be a Resource Speaker for Graduation last year 2008.. I would like to share this thing for the Graduates of 2010.. Special thanks to my super close and extra ordinary best friend Paffi for sharing thoughts and ideas on how to make a speech and be a proficient and a decent extra ordinary speaker in front of the crowd.. :-)

The Board of Directors, revered faculty and staff, parents, guests and the graduating class of 2008, Good Afternoon! I am both honored and flattered to speak for this wonderful occasion.

Congratulations Batch 2008!

Your achievements in the realms of Scholarship, Leadership, Community Service, and Character are being honored here this day by your induction into these new challenges that awaits you in the next four to five years in college.

An honor such as this is a wonderful way for the school and community to recognize and celebrate the choices, and sometimes the sacrifices, you have made.

Not long ago I was sitting on the same graduation seat, eyes was glued to the guest speaker and pretended to be listening to his address. But the truth was my childish thoughts were actually frivolous and was preoccupied with something else. I was more concerned on the thought that I would be going to college.

Now it has been 32 years since IMCC is producing quality graduates. These alumni’s have brought honors and recognitions both local and international arena. There are some companies abroad that prioritize IMCC products on the field of Nursing. Computer experts excel not only in Cebu but as well as in Manila and as far as Saudi Arabia, Qatar, and Korea and even in Britain. The question is, would I be able also bring honor to my alma mater in the future?

Commonly, as young adults our ambition is fleeting. Aim is unfocused, fickle-minded on which College to enroll, and worst of all, undecided on what course to take. Although I was blessed with supportive parents who gave me the freedom to pick whatever course I would choose, I admit I found it hard to decide for myself. I even felt I was left in uncertainty. All I really know at that time, well just as everybody else does, was that “I want to succeed in life” but on which particular aspect in my life?

I was glad to realize, though, that the answer to my question lies on my personal belief that “We can make success in everything that we do. It is just a matter of attitude. And while success knows no limit, take advantage on it.”

Regardless of the career path you have chosen, success is always there ready for you to get hold unto. Now let me let you know the secrets on how to succeed. These are the following points you need to internalize.

1st Set a Goal and Recognize Its Importance – Aim on something you really desire and determine why it is important to achieve it. This is very useful in deciding what course to take in college. If you fail on this first step, then you are unsuccessful at the very threshold of your aspirations.

2nd Take Responsibility for Your Actions – Have you decided on a specific discipline in college, be a competent student. You study hard and exert all your efforts to deliver your best. Remember, there is no one to be blamed for your success or failure but yourself.

3rd Use Mistakes to Build a Bright Future – No one is perfect. Confucius said “It does not matter the number of times we fall but the number of times we rise when we fall.” You should learn wisely on how to reverse failure into success or transform negative into positive.

4th Find Inspiration in the World around You – The world is blessed with successful individuals who have made a name in their respective field. Success is attained in various discipline and respect. You can be a successful writer like the late Sidney Shieldon, be inspired by Mother Theresa’s humanitarian advocacy, or simply admire your intelligent school principal and as well as teachers, Sir Arnado My Geometry and Statistics teacher, Maam Tilao, my home economics teacher, Maam Marivic Delima, my grade 4 adviser who is now Maam Marivic Tempiatura, and my other mentors way back in high school – though others were not here but this is my opportunity to say thank you, you really were my inspirations.

5th Never Give Up on a Dream – According to Napoleon Hill “Cherish your visions and your dreams, as they are the children of your soul, the blueprints of your ultimate achievements.”

6th Creating A Personal Code to Live By – You should have a personal system of principle for the conduct of life. My principle as I have mentioned earlier is that “We can make success in everything that we do. It is just a matter of attitude. And while success knows no limit, take advantage on it.” This is the same personal code that helped me determine the aspect of life I wanted to succeed.

7th The Golden Rule – Confucius once said that “Do not do unto others what you don’t want others do unto you.”

8th Never Forget Your Roots. - I have always been loyal to this wonderful institution that provides extensive learning. Through the years since elementary, to high school, I even acquired my college degree here so I am proud to say I have earned a comprehensive knowledge from IMCC. Famous Scottish novelist, essayist, and poet Robert Louis Stevenson says “Everyone who got where he is has had to begin where he was”

9th Focus on the Important Things in Life .

10th Setting High Expectations – By setting a high expectation you are challenging yourself to attain high ideals, thereby, maintains the drive to success. Two weeks ago I met an old friend in high school who congratulated me for the success of my career as an educator in this institution. Beaming with pride I smiled to acknowledge the compliment but she added, “anne you are now a successful person, what more can you asks for?” I was stunned by her words “what more can you ask for?” does she mean that I am supposed to stop from here, or just stagnate because I have just accomplished something worth a success?! NO WAY! I may have succeeded in attaining a college degree, successful in my dreams of becoming an educator but it does not stop there. Presently I am taking my Master’s Degree in Information Technology and after this will be a Doctorate in the same field like our CCS Dean Doctor Liezl Grace P. Wagas. Success after each success in every undertaking for it has no limit, broadening my path, moving forward to conquering the profoundness of new horizons. IMCC on its 32th year of producing quality students, shares the same points I have given to you.

So before I end, I have a piece of advice and that is “not to hesitate to step over the threshold of the door that is already open for you. With the knowledge and friends you gained from your alma mater, the Iligan Medical Center College, you will overcome every obstacle. The main thing is to follow your dream and have persistence and faith. Do not settle and keep looking to succeed.

So let me wish you luck and perseverance. I wish you all successes on you life path. As we go on, we grow together with our alma mater, for success knows no limit, IMCC Let’s Keep Moving On To New Horizons! Good luck to you all!
